From shimmering indie pop & post punk to soul revival & adult contemporary, there is a trademark authenticity that underpins Steven Schram’s mixing and production style. Starting his career engineering Live At The Wireless at TripleJ (Radiohead, Queens of The Stoneage, Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and mentored by Australian production heavyweights Chris Thompson (The Waifs, Augie March) & Tony Cohen (Nick Cave & Bad Seeds, The Cruel Sea), Steven relies on instinct while hunting imperfections and encourages his artists to do the same.
Avoiding sterile, overly refined production techniques in favour of capturing an artist’s true essence, Steven has been behind an impressive list of releases including Gravity Stairs for Crowded House and Paul Kelly’s first number one album Life is Fine, for which Steven won the 2017 ARIA Award for Engineer of the Year. He has also been at the production helm of other Paul Kelly albums in recent years, most notably 2018’s Nature which also debuted at Number 1 on the ARIA charts, as well as The Merri Soul Sessions and Fever Longing Still.
Steven has been a major contributor to the creative output of indie band San Cisco, having Produced and co-written all of their output from 2010-2020, all of which placed in the ARIA top 20, with 8 Triplej Hottest 100 entries and Gracetown reaching number 2 in the charts.
Steven’s production, mixing & co-writing prowess sees him in high demand, teaming up with Crowded House, Ed Sheeran, Mildlife, Mo’Ju, Jaguar Jonze, Public Enemy, Darren Middleton, I Know Leopard, Teenage Dads, Shihad, Halcyon Drive, Tiny Little Houses, Little Red, The Cat Empire and Tinpan Orange.
Recently, Steven was named MPEG Recording Engineer of the Year and sailed past a combined 1 Billion streams.
